A family favourite in Westland’s Walker family, this is one apple crumble recipe you will want to pass down through the generations too. Add a dollop of your favourite EASIYO yoghurt, cream or ice cream and you will be scraping the bottom of the bowl.
Try clarified butter for cooking, for a higher smoke point. Put a butter block in a glad bag and leave in a pot of hot water until melted. Chill in the fridge until solid, and then wash off the white milk solids.
150g Westgold butter
4 tbsp of sugar
1 cup of flour
6 granny smith apples
First get out a medium sized bowl, chop up the butter and mix in the flour. Crumble the flour and butter with your hands until it looks like fine bread crumbs. Peel and chop the apples, and place into a large dish.
Sprinkle half the sugar over top of the apples, then add the other half sugar to the flour and butter mixture.
Sprinkle the mixture over top of apples.
Place in the oven and cook for 30 minutes on 200°c.
